Dear friends and dear colleagues,
The COVID-19 affects the artistic and cultural field strongly with most festivals, concerts and events cancelled and many cultural centres shut down, which means a massive loss of activities and income for all involved: artists, producers, managers, technicians, etc. Our work - based on meeting with people from abroad and exchange of activities - is at the verge of a complete shut-down.
We all are now faced with a big unknown. We will be challenged to alter our institutionalised thinking, to give up our privileged position and try to see the very same situation from a different perspective.
We want to send a message of courage to everyone involved and affected.
Cultural philosopher Slavoj Zizek, in his article, articulates an alternative perspective for us all to consider and reflect on when reading the COVID-19 situation. Zizek says, “...But maybe another – and much more beneficial – ideological virus will spread and hopefully infect us: the virus of thinking about an alternate society, a society beyond nation-state, a society that actualizes itself in the forms of global solidarity and cooperation...”
We stand with our colleagues all over the world and affirm our total solidarity with the arts and culture sectors!
💚 Let’s remain united to defend our culture, arts and freedom. 💚
